Oklahoma highway fatalities decrease in 2009
Preliminary figures from the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office show that fatalities declined again in 2009, with 694 currently reported. That follows a continued downward trend since 2005, according to OHSO statistics. The actual 2009 numbers may change slightly as data is finalized.
“We’re very glad to see that fatal crashes continue to decline,” said OHP Capt. Paul Timmons. “We urge Oklahomans to continue to drive carefully. If everyone will do his or her part to be safe on the roadways, we can see this number decrease even more in future years.”
Timmons said it’s particularly important for drivers to observe the speed limit, avoid drinking and driving, avoid distractions and to make sure everyone in the vehicle is appropriately buckled up.
