Proceeds Benefit Child Abuse Prevention Programs
Specialty license tags are now available for purchase to help raise money to assist families in getting off to a productive, nurturing start in Oklahoma. Applications for the new tag called ''Start Right'' are available at your local tag agency. All funds raised from the sale of the new specialty license tags go to support community-based child abuse prevention activities carried out through the Office of Child Abuse Prevention, Oklahoma State Department of Health.
The ''Start Right'' specialty license tag costs $35.00 and if ordering by mail, a $2.00 shipping charge is added, for a total cost of $37.00. Receipt of the tag will take a couple of weeks. Of every tag purchased, $20.00 of the proceeds will go into the state child abuse prevention fund to support child abuse prevention programs across the state.
''In addition to getting a bright, colorful blue tag, you will be raising awareness in the community about the important issue of child abuse and neglect. You will also be contributing to initiatives to support parents and prevent child abuse and neglect,'' said OSDH Community-Based Child Abuse Prevention Grant Coordinator Sherie Trice.
According to statistics from the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, in 2006 in Oklahoma there were more than 13,800 confirmations of child abuse and/or neglect.
''Everyone in Oklahoma benefits when children 'Start Right' and these specialty license tags provide an opportunity for the average citizen to participate in improving the health and quality of life for Oklahoma's children,'' Trice said.
