The remains of a 17-year-old girl missing from Lawton for several years have been identified. Tanja Marie Hook's remains were found in McClain County in August 2003 near the town of Cole. Since that time, the McClain County Sheriff's Office and OSBI agents worked this case, running leads and disseminating a sketch of the girl.
Several months ago the Lawton Police Department retrieved a DNA sample from the mother and father of a missing Lawton teenager - reported missing July 2, 2003. That DNA was entered into a missing persons database administered by the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. DNA was also taken from the remains found in McClain County. In May, a match was made. To be certain, dental records of Tanja Hook were compared to the remains. The medical examiner's office determined them to match.
The McClain County Sheriff's Office, the OSBI, and now the Lawton Police Department continue searching for the person(s) who killed Hook. If anyone has information about this case, please contact either the OSBI at 1-800-522-8017, the McClain County Sheriff's Office at 405-527-2141 or the Lawton Police Department Crime Stoppers line at 580-355-4636.
