A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will arrive on August 2, 2008, to examine all aspects of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation's policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services, Director A. DeWade Langley, Ed.D., announced today.
Verification by the team that the OSBI meets the Commission's state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to maintain accreditation. ''CALEA accreditation is a highly prized recognition of law enforcement excellence,'' Langley said.
As part of the on-site assessment, agency personnel and members of the community are invited to offer comments to the assessment team by telephone. The public may call this toll-free number, 1-866-805-6401, on Monday, August 4, 2008, between the hours of 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency's ability to comply with CALEA's standards. A copy of the standards is available at OSBI Headquarters, 6600 N. Harvey, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Copies of the standards are also available for viewing at the OSBI's regional offices.
Persons wishing to offer written comments about the OSBI's ability to comply with the standards for accreditation are invited to write: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), 10302 Eaton Place, Suite 100, Fairfax, Virginia, 22030-2215.
