Football fans win tickets and prizes to three Oklahoma college games
Almost 3,700 Oklahomans registered for a chance to win a VIP Fan Experience at one of three college football games this year.
State Treasurer Scott Meacham announced the end of the Oklahoma College Savings Plan (OCSP) second annual VIP Fan Experience Sweepstakes which kicked off on August 25th.
Meacham said those who participated in the OCSP's VIP Fan Experience Sweepstakes were competing to win four tickets to one of the following three college games: the Oklahoma State University/Texas Tech game on
October 4th, the University of Oklahoma/Kansas game on Oct. 18 and the
University of Tulsa/Central Florida game on Oct. 26.
''We are happy with the Sweepstakes results,'' said Meacham, chair of the OCSP board. ''It helped raise awareness of the Oklahoma College Savings Plan and its tremendous benefits to help parents and grandparents save for college education costs.''
The Sweepstakes included a chance to win four tickets to one of the three games, pre-game sideline passes, game programs, plus autographed footballs from the respective coaches.
Don Anderson of Oklahoma City was the first winner. He and three family members attended the game between OSU and Texas A&M in Stillwater. Anderson recently opened an account for his first grandchild, Sophie.
Cody Bristow of Hinton, his wife, Stephenie, and two other family members were winners of the tickets to the OU vs. Kansas game in Norman.
''It was so much fun walking on Owen Field before the game. I've been watching OU games since I was a kid and know all of the great players that have played on that field,'' said Bristow. ''To be there on the same
field and to be able to feel the tradition was really awe inspiring.''
Kyle Smith of Tulsa was the final winner of the Sweepstakes and attended the Tulsa vs. Central Florida matchup with his wife, Jennifer, and his parents, Dottie and Ken Smith, also of Tulsa.
The Oklahoma College Savings Plan is the only 529 plan with an Oklahoma income tax deduction - up to $20,000 per year for families and $10,000 for single taxpayers, Meacham said.
All contributions and earnings to an OCSP account are tax deferred, and become permanently tax free when qualified withdrawals are made to fund an array of student expenses at most institutions of higher learning.
Funds may be used at virtually any private or public college nationwide, and the savings can be applied to tuition as well as other qualified expenses including fees, books, supplies and certain room and board
costs.
