The Department of Public Safety and the Oklahoma Tax Commission have partnered together to add a driver license renewal reminder to the new Tax Commission Vehicle Registration Renewal Notice. Registered vehicle owners will begin seeing the new notices this month.
The driver license statement on the front side of the notice will contain the statement, ''REMEMBER TO CHECK THE EXPIRATION OF YOUR DRIVER LICENSE!'' The reverse side of the notice contains a more detailed statement, ''DRIVER LICENSE RENEWAL REMINDER FROM THE OKLAHOMA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY- An Oklahoma driver license may be renewed up to six (6) months in advance, without losing any time. When you renew your vehicle registration, remember to check your driver license expiration. If that expiration is within six months, you may wish to renew your driver license along with your vehicle registration. The (future) expiration date is not affected by early renewal. Contact any tag agency, or the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety, for details.''
''With DPS and the OTC partnering together we are hoping to help remind the public about renewing their driver license before it expires,'' said Paula Ross, Oklahoma Tax Commission spokesperson. ''This cooperative effort between the agencies should better assist the citizens of Oklahoma in maintaining a valid license.''
''We appreciate the tax commission for including this relevant notice to Oklahoma drivers,'' said Commissioner of Public Safety Kevin Ward. ''This cooperative effort provides an important reminder to citizens about their driver license expiration date and will save taxpayers close to $400,000.''
Vehicle owners already at a tag agency renewing their vehicle registration may wish to renew their driver license at the same time, if the license is set to expire in the next six months. More than 2.8 million vehicle registration renewal cards are sent out annually by the Tax Commission.
