The 2008 Oklahoma Womens Summit, co-sponsored by Governor Brad Henry and the Oklahoma Commission on the Status of Women, will be held Friday, April 25th at the State Capitol. Registration will be on the 4th floor Rotunda with opening sessions starting at 9 a.m. in the House Chamber.
The theme of this year's summit is ''Rising Up to Be the Best''. The summit will provide a forum for business, community and state leaders to discuss issues affecting women in Oklahoma. The summit's goal is to stimulate changes in state policy and create initiatives to benefit women statewide.
The program is divided into three tracks:
Incarcerated Women featuring Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater and a live drug court with the Honorable Carol Hubbard presiding.
Women's Health will be Wanda Jones, Director of the Office on Women's Health and Deputy Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Additional speakers will discuss a range of health topics from ACE (adverse childhood events) to unintended pregnancies and health issues for the mature women.
Women in Leadership will include discussions of legislation affecting women and children being proposed in this year's legislature.
The summit includes a luncheon where participants will have the opportunity to network with other women around various topics. Exhibit booths from state agencies and non-profit organizations that serve women and families will also be available.
Pre-Registration is $25.00 ($15.00 for students) and includes snacks and a box lunch. Registration on the day of the event will be $30.00.
