A rally to support Oklahoma's 12,000 foster children will take place Tuesday, May 6 at 10:00 on the south steps of the State Capitol. Members of the Foster Care Association of Oklahoma, Sen. Kathleen Wilcoxson and Rep. Susan Winchester (both foster parents), child advocates and other foster parents have collected 12,000 pairs of shoes as part of the ''Heart and Soles'' program. Hundreds of these shoes will be displayed at the Capitol steps to help raise awareness of the number of Oklahoma children currently in foster care.
Following the rally, citizens will be going through the Capitol calling on legislators to support the 25 percent increase in this year's state foster care budget that would provide more room and board for foster children in the state.
(In case of rain, the rally will be moved inside to the first floor rotunda of the Capitol.)
