A red flag warning and fire weather watch have been issued for Wednesday afternoon in advance of a dry line that will move across the state, bringing higher temperatures, low humidity and gusty winds. Areas of greatest concern are counties in the Panhandle and western Oklahoma west of a line from Alfalfa County in the north to Tillman County in the south.
???The conditions predicted for Wednesday have the potential for extreme wildfire behavior,??? said George Geissler, Oklahoma State Forester. ???We are urging people not to do any burning on Wednesday. We also ask that you report any fire or smoke you see to your nearest fire department. Time is of the essence under these types of conditions as any new fire will spread rapidly. ???
In advance of the weather event, Oklahoma Forestry Services is coordinating state and federal wildland fire resources for response if necessary, as well as communicating with Oklahoma Emergency Management and fire departments across the state about the predicted high fire danger.
