Shannon Sheffert has been Division Engineer of the Local Government Division at the Oklahoma Department of Transportation since January 2008. He joined the agency in 1988 as an engineer-in-training at the Stillwater Residency, where he worked for 8 years in construction inspection.
In 1996, he assumed the duties of Division 4’s Local Government and Utility Engineering Manager. He worked in Division 4 for the next 12 years with counties, cities and utility companies on road and bridge projects, bridge inspection and utility permits. In 2008 he was chosen to lead the Local Government Division.
Mr. Sheffert grew up in the Oklahoma City area attending High School in Midwest City. He later obtained a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Oklahoma State University in 1987.
Sheffert is an Eagle Scout, has served as an Assistant Scout Master and also got to be a kid again when his son joined a Boy Scout troop in Stillwater. He is active in the Oklahoma Furbearers Alliance serving in several capacities of leadership including several terms as president of the 300-Plus-Member, an association of trappers and hunters committed to educating citizens on responsible harvest and wise use of Oklahoma’s furbearers. He has a passion for public education on wildlife related issues, which can be seen in his office which resembles a museum of bird, flower and snake identification books, and specimens that he has collected around Oklahoma on his travels.
Shannon operates a nuisance wildlife control business around the Stillwater area helping people with nuisance animal removal and relocation from homes and business. Shannon and his wife, Cathy, live in Stillwater and have two grown children, Emilee and Zachary.
