Gartner just concluded its Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2013 in Orlando, gathering tens of thousands of IT executives. Among the most anticipated aspects of the gathering are the ruminations from the Gartner pontificators regarding IT trends. Among several trends shared were the Top 10 Strategic Technology Trends for 2014.
New Moms Spend More Time on Smartphones Than Other Adults, Study Says
If you think twenty somethings are addicted to their smartphones, try hanging out with a new mom. Mothers with young children spend more time on their smartphones than other adults, including the young, digitally savvy generation known as millennials, according to research sponsored by AOL. Moms with kids 5 years old or younger spent an average of more than 37 hours per month using apps and websites on their smartphones, the analysis found.
Biometrics Go Mobile
Using biometric identifiers for secure access to mobile devices is not new, but in most organizations it has been relegated to a marginal role at best. The technology's status could be set for a fundamental change, however. Apple's new iPhone 5S, released in late September, comes with a built-in Touch ID fingerprint sensor. When the device's owner touches the smartphone's home button, the sensor reads the fingerprint and unlocks the phone.
