CPT Changes to Psychotherapy, Psychiatry, and Other Codes
Posted 12/27/12; Modified 1/28/12

Effective for charges incurred on or after January 1, 2013, certain American Medical Association CPT codes related to Mental Health (MH), Substance Abuse (SA), and other services are changing.

A “Psychiatric Services Crosswalk” with additional information about the changes is available at www.psychiatry.org

As a result of these changes, providers may be responsible for collecting a copay if an Evaluation and Management service is rendered. The $30 copay applies to general practitioners, internal medicine physicians, OB/GYNs, pediatricians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and physician type services received at rural health, VA, Military, and Indian Clinics. Copays for specialist office visits and other copay-related services received from a specialist are $50.

Services billed for MH/SA will count toward the requirement of certification after 15 visits per calendar year. Certification can be requested through the HealthChoice Health Care Management Unit at 1-405-717-8879 or toll-free 1-800-543-6044.

If you have questions, please contact HP Administrative Services, LLC (HP).
