I had the privilege this week of speaking with teachers and administrators from across the state when 71 Oklahoma schools were honored in the Great Expectations Winter meeting.

This week I had the privilege of speaking to a packed house at Tulsa’s Renaissance Convention Center as Tulsa tech students were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society for their academic excellence.

This week I’d like to talk to you about ACE … which stands for Achieving Classroom Excellence.

There are some troubling moves on the horizon to try to water down or delay ACE and I want to share with you why that should not happen, and why all Oklahomans should be concerned.

Last week I officially launched the 3R agenda to rethink, restructure and reform our state’s  system of education. This week, I wanted to spend a little more time talking about the first ‘R’ in the agenda, to rethink our entire approach to education in the 21st century.

This week, I wanted to begin by talking about the tornadoes that struck parts of our state last week in particular, the tornado that moved through Atoka County.

The town of Tushka was hit hard and the school there was severely damaged -- many buildings are a total loss.
