Supt. Hofmeister honors students, educators at 25th annual Arts Awards

 

OKLAHOMA CITY (May 5, 2015) - State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister helped present awards recently to more than 120 students and educators at the 25th annual Superintendent Awards for Arts Excellence. Held April 23 at the Scottish Rite Temple in Guthrie, the event is an opportunity to recognize high school juniors and seniors and arts educators who have achieved excellence in the arts.

OKLAHOMA CITY (April 21, 2015) — State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister praised Gov. Mary Fallin today for signing legislation aimed at alleviating the teacher shortage.

Supt. Hofmeister announces two new hires; completes leadership team

OKLAHOMA CITY (April 8, 2015) - State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister today announced she had completed forming her leadership team with two additional hires, completing a group of Cabinet-level leaders for the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE).

Hofmeister tapped Weatherford Public Schools Superintendent Matt Holder to serve as chief operations officer and Heather Griswold, an Oklahoma City nonprofit director with considerable experience in the business community, to serve as deputy chief of staff.

OSDE addresses report of single school district forcing attendance at March 30 education rally

The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) took swift action today in response to a report that a single school district had incorrectly notified teachers they would receive professional development credit for attending an education rally at the State Capitol.

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister said OSDE officials contacted the Cooperative Council for Oklahoma School Administration, the Oklahoma State School Boards Association and the school district in question to make it clear that no teacher can be coerced to attend the March 30 rally.

Supt. Hofmeister names retired Lt. Col. Lance Nelson new OSDE chief of staff

OKLAHOMA CITY (March 27, 2015) - State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister has selected Oklahoma Army National Guard Lt. Col. (Ret) Lance Nelson to serve as chief of staff for the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE). Nelson, whose Army National Guard retirement takes effect April 1, brings more than 30 years of leadership experience to his new post.

Public Notice: ESEA Flexibility Extension Request

Oklahoma’s ESEA Flexibility Extension Request due to the United States Department of Education (USDE) March 31, 2015 is available for public comment.

The OSDE is in the process of amending the current Oklahoma ESEA flexibility waiver.
