Gov. Mary Fallin in her State of the State address this week praised Supt. Janet Barresi’s college, career and citizen readiness plan, known as the C3 Plan, being used to implement education reforms.
“Those three ‘Cs’ are exactly what we should be promoting in Oklahoma,” Fallin said in her address.
Fallin thanked legislators for sending her a series of outstanding education reform bills last year that included an A-F grading scale for schools so parents and students can have a simple and transparent tool for understanding how their local school is performing. Another achievement in education was the ending of social promotion; no longer will a child who cannot read on third grade level be promoted to the fourth grade without a series of intervention steps. Accountability in the classroom will be achieved through a new Teacher and Leader Effectiveness Evaluation System, which will make sure that every child’s teacher is effective in the classroom.
All of these adopted reforms are designed around Superintendent Barresi’s C3 plan with the goal of making every Oklahoma student college, career, and citizen ready.
