Never Give Up

I read a story in the Enid News today (http://enidnews.com/localnews/x1561258525/School-in-the-running-for-nati...) about Hoover Elementary School, which has been nominated by the State Department of Education as a potential national Blue Ribbon School.

I loved reading Principal Karen Heizer’s comments about her school and her teaching staff. They have a “never-give-up” attitude, she said.

She said the staff designed after-school programs that tied closely with lessons and provided after-school help for students who are struggling in math and science.

Heizer is quoted in the article as saying: “I do have to say it’s not the programs that make the difference, it’s the people who make the difference. I have the most dedicated employees at Hoover. They are never going to give up on the kids.”

Heizer said the staff lives up to the school’s action statement: “Every child. Every chance. Every way. Every day.”

I’ve had the privilege of traveling to several schools this year that received the Blue Ribbon designation, and I know educators at each of these sites are working in similar ways to ensure their student’s success.

I would encourage all our state’s teachers and school administrators to take up this mantra of never giving up. Each child is worth the effort.
