New Teacher Fundamentals: Help! I am a new teacher! What do I do?

Are you a new or developing PK-4th grade teacher? New Teacher Fundamentals addresses the concerns of the novice teacher. This course offers research based proven strategies for managing student behavior and creating a climate of high expectations.  Teachers will learn how to differentiate instruction for diverse learners, how to plan effective instruction (lesson planning), how to grow professionally utilizing evaluation instruments.

 

Becoming a Cultural Responsive Educator

How do you reach students who are culturally and racially different from you? This overview course will provide thought-provoking background and practical suggestions/strategies  for teachers seeking the answer to this question. Participants will explore their own assumptions about race, class, and culture; and learn strategies for creating classrooms that are culturally inviting to all.  In this course, you will learn who your students really are by advocating an approach that celebrates culture and history, rather than requiring students to give up parts of their identities in order to survive in school.

STEM Learning Think Tank: Strategies That Engage the Mind

Presenters will engage participants in a half-day thinking tank focused on STEM Learning principles and experiences. The experience will include the following:

  • Reading and Discussion: Delving into the research; defining/refining our vision of STEM learning goals.
  • Hands-on Experience:  Engaging in STEM learning investigations and reflecting on the process of problem solving, inquiry, and thinking.
  • Planning and Applying the Learning:  Using a planning template to design further STEM learning opportunities in support of the standards at a grade level/for a course.
