The Office of Educational Support encompasses several sections whose goals are to provide support to school district leaders, teachers, and staff in the following areas:
The Counseling/ACE Section works with school district leaders, teachers, and guidance counselors to provide information for graduation requirements, Concurrent Enrollment, Academic Scholars, ACE (Achieving Classroom Excellence), Alternative Education, HIV/AIDS Prevention, Bullying Prevention, and other Prevention Education Programs.
The Lifelong Learning Section works statewide with Adult Learning Centers, and the Department of Corrections, to help adults improve their skills and meet their personal and academic goals. The Lifelong Learning Team also provides ongoing professional development and specialized training for adult educators and GED examiners throughout the state.
The Parent/Community Engagement Section works to bring parents and the community together as an integral component to effective schools. This team provides information on 21st Century Community Learning Center Competitive Grant opportunities and Oklahoma Learn and Serve.
The School Support/School Improvement Section works with school districts that receive Title I federal funds to improve student achievement in low performing schools and schools with particular groups of students with low achievement. This team provides information on Turnaround programs and School Support Team Leaders.
The Teacher/Leader Effectiveness Section works with school district leaders to implement details of Oklahoma’s new Teacher and Leader Effectiveness (TLE) Evaluation System. This team also provides information on the Oklahoma Teacher of the Year, who represents Oklahoma in the national competition and shares knowledge and resources with fellow educators around the state, and The Milken Educator Award Program, which provides public recognition and an unrestricted financial award of $25,000 to elementary and secondary school teachers, principals, and other education professionals who are furthering excellence in education.
