2013 Playground Safety Poster Contest

The Playground Safety Awareness Calendar was developed at the Oklahoma Department of Labor in cooperation with the following Playground Safety Poster Contest Sponsors: the Oklahoma Recreation and Parks Society, the Oklahoma State Department of Education, and Children’s Specialties. The purpose of this calendar is to increase public awareness of playground safety.

The contest is open to all Oklahoma elementary age school children in grades 1 through 6. Posters will be received from public and private schools, home schools, and recreation centers.

Posters will be judged in the following grade categories:
  • Group 1 = 1st and 2nd grades
  • Group 2 = 3rd and 4th grades
  • Group 3 = 5th and 6th grades

Poster Contest Dates
  • Friday, March 8, 2013  Poster submission deadline to Oklahoma Department of Labor, Oklahoma City office
  • Friday, April 12, 2013  Poster Contest Winners Announced
  • Tuesday, April 23, 2013  Poster Winners Attend State Capitol Presentation
  • Monday, April 22 – Friday, April 26, 2013  National Playground Safety Week

Plan Review Guidelines for Oklahoma Public School Construction Projects

Legislative Authorization

Effective July 1, 2012, the Capital Improvement Section of the State Department of Education will no longer review plans and specifications for school construction or remodeling projects.  House Bill 2306 - Removes authority from the State Board of Education to review preliminary plans for new construction and major alterations of public school buildings.
