Oklahoma ACT Scores Show Need for State Focus on Science & Math

While more Oklahoma students than ever – 29,342 – took the ACT this year, the state's average composite score remains flatlined when compared to previous years’ scores, according to results released today.

Oklahoma’s State Department of Education on Thursday announced plans for an October statewide roll-out of new A-F School Grading System report cards, a state reform that gives a letter grade to schools and school districts similar to grades given to students.

REAC3H Coaches Assist State Teachers with Literacy Goals

After undergoing their second full week of intensive training this week at the State Department of Education, 60 REAC3H Coaches will be dispersed throughout the state to assist Oklahoma classroom teachers with the implementation of new education reforms such as third-grade reading sufficiency and the transition to Oklahoma C3 Standards, which include Common Core standards in reading and math and new state standards in social studies.

Oklahoma high schools recently received ACT scores for students tested during the past school year along with information showing how prepared students are for college-level coursework.

Measurements that Matter

Just as a football team needs to know what yard line the offense is on in order to call the next play and score a touchdown, state educators use tests to measure what students know and what they don’t yet know, where extra instruction is needed and which students need additional help. Moreover, our system of education should be able to demonstrate measurable results so that taxpayers know their money has been invested well and used wisely.
