OSBI Investigates Possible Jail Homicide

Monday evening, the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office requested OSBI investigate a possible homicide inside the jail. At approximately 5:40 p.m. a jail staff member on the 10 floor of the jail discovered inmate Artie Hales (d.o.b. 3/13/1958) injured. Emergency personnel responded to the scene and determined Hales was dead. OSBI dispatched several agents to the scene to investigate. Injuries to Hale’s body are consistent with homicide; however, the medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.

Hales was incarcerated March 11 on numerous misdemeanors including littering, disorderly conduct, and failure to appear. Hales did not list a residence and was considered transient.

The OSBI will compile information from the investigation and present a report to the district attorney for his review. No one is under arrest at this time.
