OSBI Investigates Lawton Police-Involved Shooting Death
OSBI agents are investigating a police-involved shooting in Lawton at the request of the Lawton Police Department. At approximately 3 p.m. officers responded to a call to check the welfare of a woman at 6404 Oak. When officers arrived, they determined the woman was suicidal.
At some point in time, the woman pulled out a gun with officers standing nearby. At least one officer fired his weapon. It is unclear at this time if the woman shot herself or if the officer shot her. The medical examiner’s office will make that determination.
Thirty-year-old Lauren Haskins was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Agents will conduct numerous interviews of officers at the scene and any witnesses. Investigators will also collect evidence at the scene and submit it to the OSBI lab for forensic examination.
When the OSBI investigation is complete, a report will be given to the district attorney. The d.a. will determine whether the shooting was justified.
OSBI will not release the names of any officers involved.
