OKLAHOMA CITY-- Oklahoma state agency websites now can easily have a design consistent with the new look and feel of Governor Mary Fallin’s website, thanks to the launch of GoGov! 2.0, the Content Management System (CMS) used by more than 100 Oklahoma state agencies.
Governor Mary Fallin launched the first "Generation 4" (Gen4) template in October 2011 in an effort for the state of Oklahoma to create a more transparent government presence.
“Regardless of the state agency, we want to provide a consistent Web design that reassures Oklahomans they are visiting a state site,” said Oklahoma State Chief Information Officer, Alex Pettit. “GoGov! 2.0 provides this transparency, while also giving state agency personnel an easy Web tool to use.”
GoGov!, OK.gov's award-winning CMS, is a proprietary enterprise service offering designed specifically for state and municipal governments. GoGov! was initially created to improve access to government, reduce service-processing costs, and enable governments to provide a higher quality of services to their citizens. GoGov! is a user-friendly system that allows state agencies, cities, and counties to create and maintain their website(s) 24/7 without requiring programming language knowledge.
The GoGov! 2.0 release offers a variety of enhancing features to improve the service offering and allows citizens to interact closely with their government, through:
“Governor Mary Fallin and her staff challenged OK.gov to design and develop a new standard look and feel for the state of Oklahoma,” said Mark Mitchell, OK.gov General Manager. “OK.gov worked very closely with Governor Fallin and her staff to finalize and initially launch the new design in October 2011. This latest GoGov! 2.0 release now allows other state agencies using the GoGov! CMS to follow suit in an effort to increase consistency amongst state agency websites.”

Oklahoma is taking the idea of cradle-to-grave government services to a new level.
The state's Funeral Board recently released a new application allowing funeral directors and embalmers to renew their licenses online at www.okfuneral.com beginning Nov. 1.
Much like online driver’s license renewal, the system will streamline and Web-enable processes for funeral directors and embalmers. The project is a collaboration between the Oklahoma Office of State Finance and Oklahoma Interactive, an arm of e-government firm NIC.
“Implementing this system should provide a way to expedite the process for funeral directors and embalmers to renew their licenses with the state,” said Oklahoma Funeral Board Past President Jim Parks in a statement. “The new online license renewal process greatly reduces the amount of time required to administer the license renewal process.”
During the next license renewal cycle, the Oklahoma Funeral Board expects most funeral board and embalmer licensees to renew online, which will save time when compared with the previously paper-intensive process. According to the press release, a typical online renewal takes about five minutes to complete, and licensees can print verification of the licensure renewal at the end of the process. In conjunction with their license renewal, a licensee will be able to enter and track continuing education credits, as well as update contact information. After the online renewal is complete and approved, the Oklahoma Funeral Board will update the applicant’s license record and issue a wallet card.
Oklahomans interested in following legislative action in the State Senate will soon be able to access streaming video from all committee rooms. The Senate has offered streaming video from the chamber, rooms 419-C and 511-A for several years—now that service is being expanded to 534, 419-A and 419-B, making it possible to view all committee meetings. In addition, video monitors are being installed in those meeting rooms to show votes as they occur and enable those to be available online in real time.
“Our staff is currently installing the wiring and equipment in our committee rooms to ensure even greater access to Senate committee work,” said Senate President Pro Tempore Brian Bingman. “These changes are enabling us to make improvements to the committee process itself.”
In the past, Senators have been able to present their bills to committee for consideration before they’ve secured a House co-author. Beginning next session, Bingman will propose that the Senate’s rules be changed to require that co-authors must be in place before a bill can be heard in committee, a change that will improve the work flow for members and staff.
“The electronic upgrades we’re making will eliminate the lag time we’ve traditionally seen between committee actions and filing final reports,” explained Bingman, R-Sapulpa. “Having the co-authors already named will help us streamline the process.” Bingman said more technological upgrades are in the works.
“We have other projects underway that will further open up the legislative process, giving Oklahomans greater access to the State Senate than ever before,” Bingman said. “An informed public is critical in our representative democracy. The additional improvements we’ll announce later this fall will help our citizens have a better understanding of that process.”
